Being close to the beach is usually at the top of my wish list when I have to choose a hotel at home or abroad. With that in mind, I've selected 25 beach hotels in Ireland to enjoy the best sea swims or beach walks.
1. Inchydoney Island Lodge & Spa, Corcho
The award-winning Inchydoney Island Lodge & Spa is a wonderful choice for a romantic or family holiday. It is located on a stunning Blue Flag beach, which Tripadvisor has voted as the best beach in Ireland for the past three years. So it's no surprise that Inchydoney Island Lodge Hotel is considered one of the best beach hotels in Ireland.

I stayed at The Cliff House Hotel last year and loved it. It is considered by many to be one of the best hotels in Ireland and I couldn't agree more. This five-star boutique hotel is set on a cliff overlooking the beach in the small fishing village of Ardmore. I think it's the ultimate romantic getaway. My advice would be to go kayaking in the Irish Sea before trying the delicious food on offer at the hotel.
4. Renvyle House Hotel, Galway
Renvyle House Hotel is fantastically located along the Wild Atlantic Way. It has its own private lake as well as 1 km of beach, forests and gardens. Fishing, swimming and boating are popular outdoor activities, while the heated indoor pool is popular in the winter months.
5. Slieve Donard Hotel, nedenunder
I have been lucky enough to stay at the fantastic Slieve Donard Hotel on a couple of occasions as the Northern Ireland Travel Industry Awards are held there each year. Despite the cold November breeze, I do not miss the opportunity to walk along its golden sandy beach. As well as having a fantastic seafront location, it borders the Royal County Down Golf Links course and the city of Newcastle. It also has an award-winning spa on site.
6. Quality Hotel Youghal, Corcho
Quality Hotel Youghal offers seafront rooms, apartments and villas right on Blue Flag Redbarn Beach. There are two-bedroom apartments that sleep five, as well as holiday homes that sleep seven. They are very affordable and allow you to enjoy all the facilities of a hotel while staying in spacious rooms with kitchens. With a gym, spa and pool on site, you'll be spoiled for choice. This is one of Ireland's most popular beach hotels for families.

10. Kelly's Resort Hotel & Spa, Wexford
If you're looking for a luxury beach hotel in Ireland that's perfect for families, look no further than Kelly's Resort Hotel in Wexford. We stayed here a few years ago and it reminded me of a Mediterranean hotel, it has a real "resort" feel to it. Most people book the full board package and tend not to leave the hotel: with five miles of beach, award-winning cuisine and plenty of activities for children, it's not hard to see why. Mulranny Park Hotel enjoys an idyllic location overlooking Clew Bay and Croagh Patrick Mountain, and is also located on the most scenic part of the Great Western Greenway. Guests can swim at Blue Flag Mulranny Beach, cycle along the Greenway or enjoy the hotel's indoor leisure centre. The Majestic Hotel is located in the seaside town of Tramore. It overlooks Tramore Bay and is just a short walk from its stunning 5km golden beach. It is also close to the city of Waterford and the Waterford Greenway, making it an ideal location for families looking for an active Irish holiday.

Ballycastle is the perfect place to stay if you want to explore the Causeway Coast. We stayed in this charming seaside town a few years ago and loved it. The Giant's Causeway, Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge and Dunluce Castle are a short drive away, and the town also offers some great dining options. The eco-friendly Salthouse Hotel offers magnificent sea views; however, unlike other beach hotels in Ireland I have chosen, the Salthouse hotel is a 20 minute walk from Ballycastle beach.

19. Portmarnock Hotel, Dublin
If you want to combine a visit to Dublin with a beach hotel, Portmarnock is an ideal choice. Located just 20km from the city centre, easily accessible by train, this beach hotel also boasts an award-winning golf course and luxury spa.
21. Diamond Coast Hotel, Sligo
Enniscrone Blue Flag beach is known as one of the safest beaches on the west coast of Ireland. Its golden sand stretches for 5 km, making it popular with families and water sports enthusiasts.

25. Red Cliff Lodge, Spanish Point, Clare
Red Cliff Lodge is a charming thatched property overlooking Spanish Point Beach. The six sea view suites are particularly popular with families as they are laid out on a terrace and have a kitchenette. With the Isles of Moher, Aran and the Burren close by, this is an ideal base for discovering the Wild Atlantic Way.
